74LS160 DIP Synchronous 4-Bit Decade Counter
The 74LS160 is a high speed TTL integrated circuit that functions as a synchronous, presettable decade counter. This device utilizes internal carry look-ahead circuitry to provide high speed counting for multi-stage applications. Synchronous operation is achieved by having all flip flops clocked simultaneously, which ensures that the outputs change state at the exact same time during the low to high clock transition.
This IC includes a direct clear input that is asynchronous, meaning it will reset the counter to zero regardless of the clock or other inputs. It also features a preset function that allows the counter to be loaded with any desired BCD starting value. Two enable inputs and a ripple carry output are provided to facilitate easy cascading for high speed counting chains without the need for additional external logic.
