74LS160 DIP Synchronous 4-Bit Decade Counter
The 74LS160 is a high speed TTL integrated circuit designed for synchronous counting applications. This decade counter is internally pre-programmed to count in a Binary Coded Decimal sequence from 0000 to 1001. Because the flip flops are clocked simultaneously, the outputs change state at the exact same time, eliminating the output spikes typically associated with asynchronous ripple counters.
This IC is fully presettable, allowing it to be loaded with any BCD starting value via the parallel data inputs when the load line is active low. It also features an asynchronous clear input that resets all outputs to a low logic level immediately, regardless of the clock signal. Two enable inputs and a ripple carry output allow multiple 74LS160 units to be cascaded together to create high speed multi-decade counting systems for frequency division and digital timing.
