74LS194 DIP 4-Bit Bidirectional Universal Shift Register
The 74LS194 is a high speed TTL integrated circuit that serves as a versatile 4-bit universal shift register. It is designed to perform a variety of operations including parallel-to-serial conversion, serial-to-parallel conversion, left shifting, right shifting, and parallel data loading. This flexibility is achieved through two mode control inputs (S0 and S1) which determine the functional state of the register during each clock cycle.
All shifting and parallel loading operations occur synchronously with the positive-going transition of the clock pulse. The device also features independent serial inputs for both right-shift and left-shift operations, allowing for easy cascading into larger shift arrays. An asynchronous master reset is included to immediately clear the register to zero. Its multifunctional nature makes it a fundamental component for data manipulation in computer arithmetic units, communication interfaces, and digital control systems.
